5 YouTubers We Follow For Music Marketing Tips
YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world! It is only beaten by Google which actually doesn’t matter because it is owned by Google. It is where the world goes to find how to videos on almost any question you could possibly want an answer for.
So why wouldn’t you use it to keep up with new music marketing tips and tricks.
Heading into the comments section of a lot of these videos can lead you down a rabbit hole to even more thoughts and information on the subject discussed.
Even better than that most SMART TV’s have the app for YouTube now. So you can get up in the morning and instead of watching rubbish you can watch and learn about your passion from your favourite channel.
I’ve gone and made a quick list of some of the YouTubers we follow for inspiration and new and old music marketing concepts and ideas.
1. DAMIEN KEYES
A Bass Tutor turned Music Management Business Owner, Damien Keyes focuses a lot more on live musicians and bands but as we all know these concepts can easily be reinterpreted for anything music related.
He is very straightforward and likes to cover a lot more of the business side of music. You may actually find him a little hard to watch at times but he does have a lot of great insightful stuff.
One of my recent favourites is ‘How to Promote Your Single in 2020 (20 Day Plan)’.
2. FULL STACK CREATIVE
Fully funded by indepreneur.io which is a website that sells courses on building fan bases and marketing in music. They’ve created a channel to show their knowledge and build a base of future clients.
Now the channel does have a few different angles looking to spread itself a bit over product demo in the music space and a few other bits and pieces. But they heavily focus on music marketing and do a lot of LIVE Q&As.
They are obviously looking to sell a product in the end but it is definitely not the vibe you get from watching any of their videos.
It is straight up honest information and is coming from years of experience in running a label and helping artists. Full Stack Creative delivers in all areas.
In a recent video they walk you through step by step how they helped a brand new artist with no following sell $300,000 dollars of their music across a 3 week Facebook Ads campaign. They detail the ads and the challenges.
3. BURSTIMO
Alex and Maddy from the music marketing company Burstimo host a channel specialising in music promotion in the digital era.
This channel is by far the most on point for focusing solely on music marketing. With around 250+ videos spanning over 2 years they answer just about every question you could think of.
They do tend to focus a lot on social and streaming, obviously as their field is digital but it is all solid and well worth your time.
4. !LLMIND
Now we’re getting into my favourites but also channels you might have to dig a little deeper to find the real gold.
!llmind is a grammy nominated multi-platinum music producer and all round legend. He has worked with pretty much every one of the top rappers in the scene and continues to show through innovation and hard work you can make a decent living just producing beats.
This channel is obviously geared towards music production but once again the themes lend themselves to the rest of the music industry.
He has so much knowledge and also interviews a ton of amazing, hard working producers and artists. Always bringing as much value as he can.
I guarantee you’ll find a heading for a video that will interest you and once you watch the first 5 minutes you’ll be hooked. Great dude and even better at giving away as much information as possible on the industry and how to navigate it.
I personally have found so many gems in here. *He also has a podcast called BLAPCHAT which in my opinion is even better than the youtube channel.
5. THE FUTUR
With 800k followers on YouTube these guys are absolute beasts in the marketing / creative world. Whatever channel you’re following them on they will blow you away with value.
Led by Chris Do The Futur is a portal for online education for creative entrepreneurs. In case you didn’t know as a DJ you are both creative and an entrepreneur. So this channel is bang on!
Now this list is about my 5 favourite music marketing channels and although this is not geared towards music at all it is one of my favourite marketing channels. So 100% deserves to sit on this list.
The amount of lessons I have taken away from Chris and the team is insane. I highly recommend watching the Building a Brand documentary and pretty much anything they do around content for instagram.
You will be blown away!
CONCLUSION
Everyone needs time to wind down but why not put your time in front of the television to better use. Go through this list today and see who you most relate with and consume a couple of their videos.
Just releasing your music can be enough sometimes but a lot of the time it isn’t. You need a goal and some solid marketing behind it.
Get yourself up to speed now, for the rest of 2020.
***Most of these channels have Blogs and Podcasts so if YouTube isn’t your thing check out one of their other mediums.
